Harpenden Musicale was twenty five years old in 2002. Started by Gillian and David Johnston in their front room, the school moved to the High Street Methodist Church Halls for its orchestra and band activities, and at the same time, lessons were given in private homes all over Harpenden. A shop was opened at the station master's house and later moved to Leyton Road.

In 1986 there was an opportunity to acquire the Bourne in Salisbury Avenue and move the whole operation under one roof. Parents invested in Musicale Plc, and the opportunity became a reality. Sixteen years later, Musicale moved to Homecroft on the corner of the St. George's School site. During all this time, Musicale has taught thousands of pupils and today many of them are returning with their own children!
