Instrument Rentals

We offer rental instruments to all music students in the area. If you are learning at Musicale or in one of our primary schools, you will need to hire an instrument before your child begins lessons. We currently hire out violins, violas, cellos, saxophones, trumpets, cornets, trombones, euphonium, flutes, clarinets and guitars for a minimum of three months.

If you hire a stringed instrument you can swap it for a larger size as the student grows.

The instruments we hire out are fantastic beginner products. We have carefully selected them from suppliers we trust and have built relationships with over the many years. Prices start from £10. If you would like to book an Instrument Rental please complete the form below after reading our T&Cs. You will be required to set up a direct debit and pay the first month’s rental on collection of the instrument.

For full terms and conditions please read here

If you are looking for a larger or more unusual instrument it is worth contacting the Harpenden Music Foundation who may be able to help you source the right instrument.

St John’s C of E Primary School

Musicale currently provides individual violin lessons at St John’s with the wonderful Becky Windram.

From September 2023 we are very pleased to offer the following lessons during the school day:

  • Violin – individual and paired if numbers available
  • Cello – individual and paired if numbers available
  • Flute
  • Saxophone
  • Clarinet
  • Voice
  • Trumpet
  • Cornet
  • Trombone
  • French horn

We teach 10 lessons a term for St John’s students. You will be assigned a tutor who will teach your child each week, encourage their playing, advance their skills and, if appropriate, enter them for graded exams. We have a parent portal, Teachworks, for which you will be given log in details to access times and dates of scheduled lessons and ensembles, lesson notes from the tutor and your family profile.

Tutors try to be flexible if they are given enough warning about a student’s future lesson absence. If your child has a sports match or school trip just let your music tutor know well in advance, at least 48 hours, and they will arrange a suitable time for your child’s next lesson. However, if a student misses a lesson with no warning the lesson is usually forfeited. If a lesson is cancelled by the tutor or Musicale, the student will be given credit on their account or offered another lesson time that is mutually convenient.
